Tuna and Avocado Tartare

Tuna and Avocado Tartare

Anytime I see tuna tartare on a menu, I have to try it!  It is one of my favorite dishes (which is pretty odd for someone who doesn’t typically like fish)!  My neighbor made this wonderful tuna and avocado tartare as an appetizer a few years ago and it has become my favorite spring and summer meal.  It’s light, fresh, and SO delicious!!  I’ve added a few additions like toasted sesame seeds and wasabi powder for a little extra flavor.   You can use salmon or tuna (my preference is always tuna) but make sure to get good, sushi-grade fish.  You will LOVE this recipe!!

To make this fresh salad or dip:

  1. Cut the fresh tuna (or salmon if using) and avocado into cubes and place in a bowl.
  2.  Add the lime juice, soy or Ponzu sauce, orange zest, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger paste, and wasabi to the tuna and avocado.
  3. Mix gently.
  4. Top with toasted sesame seeds and stir again.

I love making this tuna and avocado dish as a salad for a delicious fresh lunch or as an appetizer served with fried wontons or multigrain crackers.  It is a beautiful presentation and simply delicious!

Tuna and Avocado Tartare

Delicious tuna, avocado, and fresh citrus make this recipe a perfect appetizer or light meal! Get ready to be OBSESSED!! This dish is my spring and summer favorite - and so healthy.  If you can't find tuna, you can always use salmon as well or a mix of the two.
