Meet Me

Hi!  I’m Katie. Welcome to Georgia Girl Kitchen!

I love bourbon (with one large ice cube), college football (Go Dawgs!!!), a good true crime series, Diet Coke, late nights with friends, and traveling to my favorite beach.  I’m an Atlanta native – a rare find these days – and I celebrate all things Southern (except hunting).   I’m a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady but I’m just as crazy about my 2 pups and our animal zoo!  The loves of my life are my husband, Peter, and two daughters, Ellie and Julia.

I started this blog because food has always been a central theme of comfort and family to me.  I grew up around amazing Southern cooks and big meals filled with casseroles, dumplings, fried pies, and sweet tea.  I’m one of those odd people who find cooking and creating recipes relaxing and peaceful.

A few years ago I was given one of my most treasured things – a box full of ALL of my godparents recipes.  They were amazing cooks – they made their own pickles, grew their own garlic, and served things I’d never heard of growing up like aspic and ambrosia (no thank you to both of those), always with the perfect Southern-set table.  Having their recipes was like having a little piece of history and it set off a passion in me to recreate not only their creative recipes but the recipes of my grandmothers, my mom, my mother-in-law and recipes passed down to friends who have been kind enough to share their own family recipes with me.  So that’s what Georgia Girl Kitchen is all about – sharing delicious, family-inspired recipes from all of those I love!
