My Easy Homemade Gyro Meat is quick, incredibly easy and a great meal you can throw together in minutes. I love to serve it family style so everyone can make their own custom dish! This is an oven-baked, weeknight friendly meal you’ll come back to again and again.Â
If you’ve ever craved a warm, flavorful gyro but didn’t want to deal with a rotisserie or takeout, this oven-baked version is your answer. I love gyro meat (& Greek food, in general – should’ve been born Greek) but the thought of slow-cooking over a rotisserie never interested me. When I saw the viral gyro meat video on TikTok, I had to try it – and WOW was I impressed! In just 10 minutes, I made the most flavorful, thinly-shaved meat perfect for a gyro wrap.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Simple ingredients you probably already have on-hand.
- No special equipment.
- Ready in under 30 minutes.
- Perfect for meal prep or busy weeknights.
Here’s How I Make My Easy Homemade Gyro Meat:
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground lamb
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 – 1 cup of grated onion
- 1 1/2 TBSP of Greek yogurt
- 1 tsp coriander
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Step 2: Mix together all of the ingredients and use your hands to combine all of the ingredients.
Step 3: Lay one piece of parchment paper on your counter. Put a softball sized scoop of the meat mixture in the middle of the parchment paper. Spread the mixture out a little using your hands then top with another piece of parchment paper (same size as the bottom piece). Using a rolling pin, roll the meat mixture out between the parchment paper until it is very thin.  Pull the top parchment paper off and fold up the meat and bottom parchment paper.

Step 4:Â Place the rolled meat onto a baking sheet and cook on 4oo for 10 minutes.
Step 5:Â After 10 minutes, carefully unroll the gyro meat and serve with Greek salad, naan bread and tzatziki sauce.

Now that the meat is ready, it’s time to make the perfect gyro wrap. Grab your warm pita or naan and layer it with gyro meat. Top it with greek salad or sliced purple onion and tomatoes. Drizzle with a little tzatziki sauce and wrap the naan around the ingredients. Easy as that!

This is one of those recipes that feels impressive but is secretly so, so easy and simple. It’s perfect for your “what’s for dinner” rotation – quick, satisfying, and something whole family will actually love and ask for in the future.
