Crunchy Taco Salad Bowls – make your at-home taco salad taste just like your favorite restaurant!  This is a super quick and easy way to make your own taco salad bowls.  Taco salad is just boring without them!

I love a great taco salad full of chicken or steak, lettuce, tomatoes, black beans, black olives, jalapenos, and a dollop of sour cream!  But we all know the BEST part of a restaurant taco salad is definitely the crunchy bowl they serve the salad in.

But you don’t have to go to a restaurant to have these delicious bowls!  You can make them at home in about 10 minutes with just 2 ingredients – oil and flour tortillas.   I love using flour tortillas but you can also use corn tortillas if you like the taste more.  I love the way the flour tortillas bubble up and crisp.

Making crunchy taco salad bowls at home is super easy and fast and will make taco salad your favorite new at-home salad!

How to make it:

  1. Pour about 1/2 inch of oil in a small skillet and heat it over medium/high heat.
  2. Place a small bowl next to your oil.
  3. Take one flour tortilla and carefully place it in the oil.  It will bubble up – don’t pop the bubbles! The bubbles make it crispy!  Let it cook on the first side for about 15-20 seconds and then flip to the other side.  You don’t want your tortilla to harden or get too crispy.  If they harden, you won’t be able to shape it into a bowl.  taco bowl 1
  4. Take the tortilla out of the oil and lay it on top of the bowl.  Press down on the middle of the tortilla so it goes down into the bowl.
  5. Sprinkle it with salt and let it cool.   Remove it from the bowl after a few minutes and turn it upside down so it will retain its shape until you’re ready to eat.  If the bowl isn’t crispy enough, you can toast it in a toaster oven or regular oven for a few minutes before serving.
