Wonton Tacos

Wonton Tacos are little bites of taco goodness perfect for Taco Tuesdays or a Mexican themed dinner night!  They are also great as a party or tailgate food.  These 3-bite wonton tacos are sure to be a new favorite in your house!

Another week has gone by and ANOTHER Taco Tuesday is here!!!   It might be my favorite day of the week.

This week, I’m cooking up delicious, bite-size Wonton Tacos.   I love a small bite and have been known to make dinner out of lots of appetizers instead of one big main dish.  I like the option of trying a few bites of everything instead of committing to only one dish sometimes!

You can definitely fill your wonton tacos with chicken if you prefer – but I love the beef or ground turkey option personally.  If you prefer chicken, here is my Fajita Chicken Marinade.  It is delicious in any taco!

How to make them:

  1. Heat a small skillet over medium/high heat.  Add 1/4 cup of oil to the pan and let it get hot.
  2. I like to make the wonton tacos one at a time.  It takes some time but I’ve found if I try to cook more than one at a time, one of them gets too crispy.  Take one wonton wrapper and place it in the oil.  Using tongs, gently turn the wonton over as you see it start to bubble up.  This does not take long! You only want to leave them on each side about 5-10 seconds.   Using the tongs, fold the wonton wrapper in half – like a taco shell.  Hold it with the tongs, turning it as it browns.  Once crispy, put the wonton upside down on a paper towel.
  3. To make the meat:
    1. Heat a medium skillet over medium/high heat.   Add a little olive oil or non-stick spray to the bottom of the pan.   Brown the ground beef or turkey.  Once it is almost cooked through, add 3 tablespoons of fajita seasoning and 1/4 cup of water.  Stir to combine.  Turn the heat down to low and let the mixture cook and combine, letting the meat soak up all the seasonings.
  4. Fill each wonton taco with the cooked meat and top with your choice of taco toppings!

Serve these with the following:

Grilled Summer Corn Salad

Homemade Salsa

Ingredients

  • 1 package of wonton wrappers
  • 1/4-1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 3 tbsp fajita seasoning
  • shredded cheese
  • shredded lettuce
  • avocado slices
  • sour cream
  • salsa (recipe linked)

Instructions

To make the wonton shells:

  • Pour 1/2 cup of vegetable oil into a small skillet. Let it heat up for 3-5 minutes.
  • Once the oil is hot, place a wonton wrapper in the oil. As soon as it starts to bubble, grab the wonton with a pair of tongs and bend it in half (like a taco shell), holding it in place with the tongs. Let it get crispy on both sides of the wonton. Once crispy, take the shell out of the oil and lay it upside down.

To make the taco meat:

  • Heat a medium skillet over medium/high heat. Add a tbsp of olive oil or use non-stick spray to coat the bottom of the pan.
  • Once hot, add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet and cook until no longer pink.
  • Add 3 tbsp of fajita seasoning to the meat, stir to combine, and then add 1/4 cup of water. Turn the heat to low and let the meat soak up the seasonings and water for a few minutes. Once it has soaked up all the flavor, remove from the heat and serve.

Assemble tacos with your preferred toppings and enjoy!
