Chicken & Broccoli Braid

The Chicken & Broccoli Braid recipe has been around awhile now.  I first saw it by Pampered Chef 10 years ago and absolutely loved their version!  I’ve edited and switched a few things around to make it perfect for our family.  This is a beautiful meal that is perfect for a family dinner, a holiday meal, or to take to a potluck.  It’s always a treat to serve & eat!

Sometimes you just need a rich, delicious, casserole-ish meal!  This is that meal!!  Yes, it is rich.  But it is also absolutely delicious and a beautiful meal for Easter, Christmas, New Year’s or any holiday meal.

Here’s how to make the Chicken & Broccoli Braid:

  • If you’re cooking the chicken, preheat your oven to 350 degrees, drizzle the chicken breasts with olive oil, salt, and pepper and cook for 20-25 minutes or until no longer pink inside.
  • Cut the chicken into cubes and place it in a large bowl.  Combine with cut up broccoli, shredded cheddar, mayonnaise, and salt and pepper. Mix well.
  • Tear off a large piece of foil or parchment paper.  If using foil, make sure to spray it with some non-stick spray.   Roll out the crescent rolls onto the foil/parchment.  Place the rectangles next to each other with one of the longer sides touching like shown below.braid3
  • Spread the chicken/broccoli mixture down the center of the dough.  Use all of the mixture – it will feel like a lot.
  • Starting from the middle (near the chicken/broccoli you just spread), cut lines from the center out to the edge all the way down the dough.  You can see how I did it in the picture below.
  • Alternating sides, “braid” the strips over the chicken/broccoli mixture.
  • Brush the top of the braid with melted butter.
  • Move the braid along with the foil/parchment to a baking sheet.
  • Cook for 25-30 minutes at 375 degrees.

Ingredients

  • 2 chicken breasts, cooked and diced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets, chopped
  • 1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 containers crescent rolls
  • salt & pepper
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • If you're cooking the chicken, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Drizzle both sides of the chicken breasts with olive oil, salt, and pepper and cook for 20-25 minutes or until no longer pink.
  • Dice the chicken and add it to a large bowl. Add the broccoli, shredded cheese, mayonnaise, and some salt & pepper. Mix well.
  • Tear a large piece of aluminum foil or parchment paper. If using foil, spray it with non-stick spray. Roll out each of the crescent rolls on top of the foil/parchment and lay them next to each other with the longer sides touching. Pinch together all the seams to make a larger rectangle. See picture.

  • Spoon the chicken and broccoli mixture down the center of the dough. Use all of the mixture (it will seem like a lot).
  • Using a butter knife, cut lines from center out to ends of each side of the braid (see picture). Carefully "braid" the dough over the chicken/broccoli mixture, alternating sides as you go.
  • Pick up the braid along with the foil/parchment and place it on a baking sheet. Brush the top of the braid with melted butter.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until top of braid is browned.
