Southern Green Beans are slow cooked with bacon and butter until melt-in-your-mouth tender. This recipe takes your normal, boring green beans and turns them into what will quickly become a side dish family favorite!
When you take the time to make a delicious meal, your side dishes need to have just as much flavor! These Southern Green Beans are always a hit!
Green beans can notoriously be pretty bland! In fact, my girls used to refer to these green beans as “the good green beans” because every other version of green beans they had were boring and flavorless. Southern Green Beans are FULL of flavor and I don’t think you’ll ever go back to boring green beans again after trying these!
This is a SOUTHERN recipe – so bacon and butter are key ingredients! They are ready in under 30 minutes and are perfect for any family dinner or holiday meal.
Here’s how to make Southern Green Beans:
- Heat a pot over medium/high heat and add 3-4 slices of chopped bacon. Let it cook until crispy.
- Once your bacon. has cooked, add 3-4 cans of green beans, draining 1-2 of the cans first. You want the liquid to almost cover the beans. You may also use fresh green beans – just snap them down to a smaller size and add water.
- Add 1-2 tbsp of butter and a good amount of salt and pepper. Stir together and let cook on low/medium heat for about 20 minutes.
